Self-Love is the Greatest Love

February 2011 Newsletter

Do you know the song "Greatest Love of All" sung by Whitney Houston and written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed? Some of the words read as follows:

"I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow
If I fail, if I succeed at least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me, they can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all inside of me
The greatest love of all is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself, it is the greatest love of all"

During this time of the year when we are giving and receiving gifts in the name of love, it's important to realize that before we can give and receive true love we must first learn to love ourselves. This means unconditional love and acceptance of who we are and must not be confused with self-centeredness or selfishness. When you cannot love and accept yourself unconditionally, how can you expect others to love and accept you unconditionally?

Unconditional love and acceptance of self must be ingrained in your psyche in order for you to grow, flourish and achieve. It must first be conceived within the minds of each individual then it begins to diffuse outward. As it radiates from within a new mindset develops and your outlook on life changes, others are more attracted to your world, personal and professional relationships thrive better and a happier you emerges.

Begin today to accept and love yourself unconditionally. Realize you or no one else is perfect. Learn how to take responsibility for the certain behaviors and forgive yourself. We all make mistakes. Use mistakes as opportunities to improve your life. Begin to make a list of all the unique qualities you possess. Add to that list every day and as much as possible use that list as validation of how unique and special you are. Happy Valentine’s Day!
