Identify Your Strengths

By Audrey Marlene

We all have our own unique strengths and characteristics. It very easy however, to become bunched in with others and lose sight of where our strengths lie. Or, we can get caught up in the trendy tasks and careers that we fail to recognize our true talents.

Your strengths reside in several channels. You can be a great motivational speaker, a great pioneer in some area, a great teacher, or a great leader. But how do you know? Today let's take a look at how to identify your strengths.

1. To identify your strengths begin by preparing a list of things you feel you are good at. Follow it up with a list of words that best describe you. Use words that others have complimented you on or have used to describe you in the past. If you cannot remember, don’t be afraid to ask your family members, friends or coworkers.

2. Next make a note of how you handle difficult situations? How you answer this will give you a lot of information about yourself.

  • Do you panic or do you calmly analyze the situation?

  • Do you call someone to assist you or do you take charge of the situation, knowing the right protocols to follow?

  • Do you trust your intuition to handle the situation or do you do some research first?

  • Do you think of the outcome of your decision making sure to create a win win situation or do you just go for it?

    3. Next, make a list of things you excel in. List the things that you feel passionate about and you are willing to go the extra mile to execute. Think about how you feel when you are engaged in this task and to what level you achieve doing it. This will help to fine-tune your great strengths.

Remember. having the ability to identify your strengths will point you in a more positive direction in life. Your strengths will channel you towards setting more realistic goals and achieving them. Don’t attempt to do something because someone is doing it and it looks appealing. Do it because it is your strength, you excel in it and it makes you happy to do it. This is how you will succeed at what you do.
